HOLY TUESDAY: Christ's return to Jerusalem from Bethany

 HOLY TUESDAY

Christ's return to Jerusalem from Bethany

April 4, 2023

Jesus teaches in the temple for the last time; God sends the invitation to come to enjoy his sacrifice

Holy Tuesday follows Christ's return to Jerusalem from Bethany. It is also referred to as Fig Tuesday. Upon his return to Jerusalem, he passes a barren fig tree that he uses along with a parable to teach an important lesson to his disciples. Jesus tells his disciples of a vineyard keeper who did not respect the wishes of the vineyard owner and even killed the vineyard owner's son in the disagreement. The religious leaders of Jerusalem heard of this parable and were angered enough to begin to plot the arrest of Jesus.

Christians may or may not celebrate Holy Tuesday. If there is a commemoration of this day of Holy Week, Christians will read passages of scripture or sing hymns that are relevant to Tuesday's events during the last week of the life of Jesus.
